The Endangered Languages Research Cluster (ELRC), under the Discipline of English, Khulna University, is dedicated to research, documentation, and preservation of endangered and minority languages of Bangladesh and beyond. To strengthen its academic reach, promote research exchange, and enhance multidisciplinary cooperation, ELRC includes Cluster Associate Members (Domestic)— teachers, researchers, experts, graduate students, and language community members from other universities, research institutes, and language communities across Bangladesh — who contribute to the Cluster’s research and outreach goals.
Faculty and researchers from relevant disciplines (e.g., Linguistics, English, Bangla, History and Civilization, Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Computer Science, Statistics, and Education) of other universities/institutes in Bangladesh
Student researchers from relevant disciplines (e.g., Linguistics, English, Bangla, History and Civilization, Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Computer Science, Statistics, and Education) of other universities/institutes in Bangladesh
Representatives of endangered and minority languages studying at other universities/institutes in Bangladesh
Linguistic community representatives
Relevant persons/experts/authorities from government, NGO, or research institutions with relevant experience in language preservation, community-based research, and responsibility for community wellbeing
Appropriate individuals, specialists, or authorities from governmental, NGO, or academic/research institutions who possess pertinent expertise/experience in community- based research, language preservation, and community welfare
The appointment of Cluster Associate Members (Domestic) aims to:
Promote national-level collaboration in endangered language research.
Integrate diverse academic and methodological perspectives into ELRC projects.
Facilitate joint research, supervision, publication, and fieldwork between Khulna University and other institutions.
Strengthen knowledge networks and encourage resource sharing across universities/institutes/communities.
Cluster Associate Members (Domestic) shall:
Collaborate on ELRC-led research projects, proposals, and academic publications.
Contribute expertise in their respective fields — such as linguistic theory, ethnography, education, digital archiving, or cultural analysis.
Participate in ELRC conferences, workshops, and seminars as presenters, mentors, or discussants.
Support training and supervision of ELRC student researchers and field teams, where applicable.
Co-develop funding proposals and inter-institutional research initiatives.
Represent ELRC in collaborative forums and promote its mission nationally and internationally.
Cluster Associate Members (Domestic) are invited or nominated by the Chairperson (Coordinator, ELRC), subject to endorsement by the ELRC Board.
Appointments are made for a period of three years, renewable based on continued engagement and contribution.
Membership may be discontinued upon request or in case of prolonged inactivity.
The inclusion of members from other disciplines seeks to:
Promote transdisciplinary collaboration in endangered language research and documentation.
Facilitate knowledge exchange between linguistic, cultural, social, and technological domains.
Support joint projects, publications, and academic events that bridge multiple disciplines.
Encourage transdisciplinary mentoring and student participation in field-based and analytical research.
Cluster Associate Members (Domestic) shall be recognized as external collaborators of ELRC.
Their contributions shall be duly acknowledged in publications, reports, and outreach materials.
They may be invited to co-author papers, co-supervise research projects, and serve as advisors on fieldwork or documentation initiatives.
Cluster Associate Members (Domestic) shall maintain communication with the Chairperson and Member-Secretary of ELRC regarding collaborative activities.
Updates and collaborative outputs may be presented during ELRC Board meetings or annual reviews.
These Terms of Reference may be amended upon recommendation by the ELRC Steering Committee and approval by the ELRC Board and subsequently reported to the Faculty Meeting (Academic Committee Meeting) of the English Discipline, Khulna University.
